Lots has been happening since school has started. The Bulldogs are 4-0 and Ed and I were able to make it to the first three games! After taking the kids to the first game against Georgia Southern on August 30th, we got a babysitter for the Central Michigan game the next week since it was a 3:30 start. It was nice to tailgate for a little bit and relax and enjoy the game without the kids in tow. The following weekend, we played at South Carolina and Ed and I used the game as an excuse for a small get-away. We dropped the kids off with mom on Friday and headed to Columbia. Ed did a little research on restaurants and we had dinner at a fabulous restaurant close to downtown called Motor Supply Company Bistro. They change the menu every day and the food was great. We even had Chuck Dowdle sitting at a table behind us, along with a few other tables of Georgia fans so we knew it had to be a good choice! We stayed at an Embassy Suites so we enjoyed a good breakfast on Saturday morning. We were able to tailgate for the day with our friends (Travis, Jim, Que, etc.) so that was a rare treat. It was a close game (too close for my comfort) and an UNBEARABLY HOT day (Ed maintains that Columbia is the hottest place on earth, and I agree!) but we left victorious (14-7) and made it home by 11:00pm so we were happy. The Dawgs traveled to Arizona State this past Saturday and had a great 27-10 victory so we're hoping they can keep things rolling. Big game against also undefeated and 9th ranked Alabama this weekend between the hedges. 7:45 kickoff on ESPN and the Dawgs will be wearing their black jerseys so this is a key game! I'll be going with my parents while leaving Ed and the kids behind so I hope I can bear the burden of bringing home a big victory! The Dawgs will be without the voice of Larry Munson as he officially retired yesterday so hopefully we can win the game for him if nothing else!
Elizabeth had her very first soccer game this past Saturday! Her team is called "Little Feat" and they look absolutely adorable in their YMCA uniforms that literally swallow them whole! She got #34 which is good luck all around - Herschel Walker's number and David Ortiz (Big Papi) of the Red Sox!! She did pretty well, but so far she doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body when it comes to going after the ball. She managed to score twice - once for her team and once for the other team - but it was only on breakaways. If she has to contend with other kids for the ball, she tends to hang back and let them fight it out. But this could be something that she learns as she plays more so we'll see. Thank goodness they don't keep score and both teams let all the kids play and just have fun. I think she really enjoys it so we'll see as the season goes along!
Children's choir has also started at church on Wednesday nights. Elizabeth seems to like it and I enjoy the routine of eating together as a family at church on Wednesdays and not having to cook! The church is starting to offer some programs for the adults and we've been attending one called "Family Talk." It's great to have something "constructive" to do while the kids are in choir. Daniel gets to hang in the nursery but next year he will be eligible for choir too. It's hard to believe they are both getting old enough to participate in these activities!
School is going well for both kids. Daniel got one "negative" report on a Friday a couple of weeks ago when the teacher wrote that they are "working on their listening skills." I found out from Kristi that Miles got the same report so I think all the Dragonfly students were flagged that day! His other reports have been good and he even asks to go to school on the days he doesn't go! He's been doing great with carpool and I even brought Elizabeth to school late yesterday and Daniel's class was on the way to the playground so he saw me and it didn't phase him one bit! He just smiled and waved at me. I can't believe my baby boy is acting so big! Now if I could just find the courage to start potty training....
Elizabeth continues to love school and she's just thriving. Her teacher told me she's ready to read so I am encouraging her to check out books from the church library so we can continue to increase her volume of books to read. Elizabeth even told me one day that Ms. Michele told her that she's ready for kindergarten! I hope she continues to have a love of school like I did. That's one thing I won't mind if she inherits from me!
I continue to be busy with all kinds of things. The consignment sale at the preschool was this past weekend. I volunteered on Tuesday night, I turned in my items on Wednesday night, I shopped the preview sale on Thursday night, and I volunteered again on Friday morning! I am happy because I spent $71 and I ended up making $161! Most of my items sold and most of them for full price. I guess all the effort in getting everything ready was worth it! I got rid of a lot of big toys and our Graco stroller so that felt good to get that stuff out of the house. My only disappointment was that I wasn't able to find as many fall/winter clothes for Elizabeth as I usually do. But the sale was wildly successful - $24K total and within $200 of our biggest sale ever, when we had 65 more consignors!! I'm also very glad it's over, as are many others!
I'm also working on putting together the first newsletter of the year and I'm hoping I'll be able to do a good job with it. I hope to finish it and get it to the printer by next week.
I'm also 2-1 in ALTA tennis matches! I've played with three different partners in three weeks, but I've managed to win twice! The second match I played with Kathy Spitzer and we won 7-6, 7-6....two straight tiebreakers! We were down in the first set so we were lucky to even force a tiebreaker but we were so happy to win both! I played with Becky Roberts this past week and we won 6-4, 6-3. I won't be able to play the next three weeks due to our New Hope class picnic, Elizabeth's kid birthday party, and Elizabeth's family party so I'm glad to have a winning record for now!
I took Elizabeth to the dentist for a check-up yesterday and it was the first time I didn't go back to the exam area with her. The hygienist said she did pretty well with the exam. She allowed them to check and clean her teeth. But they tried to take x-rays and she threw up a little bit. They tried to get her to bite down on those paper things and she just has a strong gag reflex just like her mom! Those things still make me gag! The hygienist didn't act like it was unusual and just mentioned that it's hard because their mouths are so tiny. At her next appointment, she will be 5 and the hygienist mentioned that there's an easier way to do x-rays once they reach age 5. Hopefully things will go smoothly for her then!
Elizabeth's birthday is fast approaching and I hope everything goes well for her party. We are having it here at the house on Sunday, October 5th from 3:00-4:30pm. Cinderella will be coming as the only party entertainment! I invited all the girls in her class as well as Ava, Ella, Emma, and Grace Smith. Everyone who has responded so far is coming and I'm just waiting to hear from a few girls in her class. I hope the weather is as nice as it has been recently so we can be outside part of the time. Elizabeth has asked for cupcakes instead of a cake and I'm also hoping we can make homemade ice cream so it hopefully shouldn't be a really expensive party! For the party favors, I found a website that offers custom CDs with graphics so I ordered a CD for everyone with Cinderella graphics. I bought the Cinderella soundtrack and plan on making copies for everyone. Probably a *little* illegal, but hopefully the girls will enjoy it!
That's about all the news that's fit to print for now. I hope we continue to be blessed with happiness, good health, and wonderful fall weather!!
