Well, it's Monday. Nothing much to report and nothing much exciting on this Monday. I can't believe my baby boy will be 2 years old in just one week! I am looking forward to his birthday party on Sunday. Ed's mom will be arriving from Houston on Saturday to be here with us. I tried to order his birthday cake today from Publix (Lightning McQueen/"Cars", of course....nothing else will do) but the location at Northlake did not have the Lightning McQueen cake in their book for some reason so I will have to go to the Tucker location tomorrow since I know I've seen it there.
Daniel's boo boo (site of his stitches) is looking substantially better. The stitches have finally all fallen out (I helped them a little by snipping the stray ends off yesterday morning) and the site is definitely healing. I'm putting the Vitamin E cream on it twice a day so hopefully we can minimize any scar. I can't wait for the day when it's not the first thing you see when you look at his sweet little face. It's still not bad at all, all things considered. I hate that he has to have it on his birthday but it will always be a reminder of what a wild and crazy boy he is! I'm not really sure what to do about getting 2-year-old professional portraits of him, and it really has little to do with his boo boo. I was good about getting Elizabeth's pictures made on all of her milestones but the kids just had their pictures made at school in the fall (October) and I'm not sure if they will be doing them again in the spring. I think I'd rather have someone come to the house and take pictures of all four of us, maybe outside in our "new" backyard. Maybe Ed will go for it since he is losing all this weight.
Speaking of which....he is still doing great on WW and he's down a total of 16 pounds as of today. He said this would be a rough week for him since he has a work dinner Tuesday, then he and I are going to Wildfire on Saturday night while his mom babysits, and then there's Daniel's party on Sunday. He's aware of it at least and he can work in some extra exercise to earn the right to eat a little more. I have no doubt he'll be back on track.
We had a pretty good and uneventful weekend. We went to Goldfish on Friday night with 5 other couples as a surprise birthday dinner for Bill Trocchi. The food was great...it was Ed's first time eating there and he loved it. It's fairly easy to eat well there too since it's seafood. My parents babysat and took the kids to Applebee's. We didn't do a whole lot on Saturday, although we did get some playtime outside since the weather was in the 60s. Then we went to dinner on Saturday night with Mark and Lisa Bowling, Michael and Carol Smith, and some friends of the Bowlings. We ate at On the Border and then went to a "Married Life: Live" program at Buckhead Church. The program was good, with most of it being entertainment (music, skits, etc.) I came away wishing there was a little more "program" and a little less "entertainment" but we had a good time nonetheless. Ed said he would definitely go again. The topic was on "intimacy" and how to ask questions and have conversations to really understand your spouse and how that can breed intimacy. Ed and I came home and took the "quiz" that was handed out and I thought that was a good way of opening up to each other and learning how to talk about topics other than the superficial day-to-day things that seem to occupy our thoughts and conversations. The next one is in May so we'll have to see if we can make it again.
Other than that, all is well. My Disciple class has officially switched to 11am on Sundays instead of 6pm. I am glad to have my Sunday evenings back with my family and although I have to give up the 11:00 church service, it's only for a few more months and it's worth it to have Sunday evenings free. I may just need to get the CDs from the church office to hear some of the sermons.
I had a "sock tirade" this morning. Daniel's socks have a way of disappearing into thin air and for some reason, it really bothers me when things disappear and I can't find them anywhere. Then after lunch he must have taken his socks off and I turned the playroom upside down and still couldn't find them. So I whisked both kids in the car and promptly raced to Target where I got not one....not two....but three new pairs of navy socks for Daniel so I could be sure we'd have enough even if some disappear. I also came away with a Lightning McQueen t-shirt for Daniel and a short-sleeve leotard for Elizabeth. Oh well. The $27, which I put on my own credit card, was well worth it to preserve my sanity. Such is life on a Monday, I guess..... Oh, and for more on my pet peeve of disappearing objects......ask Ed how I feel about the UGA and Red Sox bottle coozies that were in the kitchen on New Year's Eve, but haven't been seen since. Ed tells me I'm good at keeping perspective on the "big picture" stuff but I need to work on not letting the little things get to me. "Don't sweat the small stuff" so they say. I think he's right! We are reading a book right now in WOW called "The 4:8 Principle" for living your life according to Philippians 4:8 ("whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right.....think about such things.") I think it is a really good book for me to read!!
